The island of Currents-Portopalo

The island of the currents is the southermost point of Italy, crossing of winds and seas, the Ionian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.

The advice is to take a tent, put it on the sand, fall asleep inside, do not point the alarm, waiting to enjoy the awakening early in the morning. Yes, because nature will come and knock you open your eyes. It is one of the pleasures that gives the island currents that depending on the tide bit be easily reached.

In latitude even more southerly than a piece of Africa, of Tunisia. It is fascinating to cross it, so wild, and stand on the southerly tip of the cliff. You have the feeling of being in the middle of the Mediterranean, thinking for a moment the immensity of the sea around that dot.

The reserve of Vendicari !

A true natural paradise!

Immediately we find the remains of ancient Tonnara, and the ancient houses of fishermen.

Adjacent to the Tonnara, we find the Torre Sveva, a fortified structure dating from 1400.

Here the coastline becomes rocky, with small coves from the deep sea ideal for lovers of snorkeling.  Once you get to the equipped parking, you have to take a path of about a kilometer. In 2005 she was honored by the Blue Guide of Legambiente of the title “Most beautiful beach of Italy”.
